Whoa! "The culture you created wasn’t built to solve your problems. It was built because of your problems." This is gold, Jeff. How many times have we seen policies created as the result of a problem, that ends up becoming 'just the way we do things' when the issue could have been resolved a better way.
Three weeks ago I was out for a run and a concept popped into my mind. I stopped and quickly jotted it down, as I tend to do.
The sentence was this:
“The culture you created wasn’t built to solve your problems, it was built because of your problems.”
I knew that was a valuable insight. I tried to write something a few weeks ago but it didn’t work. Then on another run this past week I was thinking about politics and realized the same concept applies to a macro level (our country) as it does to a micro (the team you manage).
This entire article is meant to center around that one concept. Im so ridiculously happy that the main point I was trying to get across came out.
