A couple of weeks ago I showed you the results of a study about the most common traits of great managers. The study, by The Predictive Index, surveyed over 5,100 people. My favorite result was this:
#3 Most Common Trait of Great Managers
Having a sense of humor
Listen, I’m no survey genius, but this entire study seems like it has a sense of humor.
I remind you of this because the wonderful folks at Hubspot just released a similar study and, well, theirs actually provides valuable - and credible - insight.
I wanted to save my good name by not having you think I support the previous study.
See if you can figure out which survey is the trustworthy one. (see below)
Interesting that they are both talking about managers, not leaders. I wasn't very taken with the PI list either, but then I figured out that the person they're talking about would make a great manager, according to the person supervising the manager. What executive wouldn't want their managers to have a great work ethic, be honest, and have a good sense of humor for when they get the bad news that their staff isn't getting any wage increases this year? My old company, which still has a few leftovers from the Jurassic era in upper management, used PI as their go-to for leadership development and this pretty much explains why.
