Great read as usual Jeff. The brown M&Ms were actually David Lee Roth's idea. He explains it in a YouTube video after their stage sunk into a new high school football field causing about $500K in damage, because no one read the rider. He once also referenced an old woman bursting backstage into their room one night throwing herself at the M&M jar before they saw brown M&Ms which someone forgot to remove. (She read the rider!)
I’m pretty positive they just selected brown M&Ms randomly and there wasn’t any racist thinking. Besides, the point of the exercise wasn’t about the M&Ms, it was about safety and attention to detail.
