Great Article. For a contrarian or perhaps additional perspective: You could, as much of todays retail, opinion and political marketing enterprises attempt to do, work to change the round hole so that your square peg will fit. Or at least change the "perception" so that the square peg appears to be round and thereby make the "sale". Those with a little Integrity may see through this approach, but that's marketing. Or, have I just become too cynical?

ha. interesting perspective. i'd say your perspective is as cynical as "Tylenol Flu" vs "Tylenol Flu and Cold".... same product, different name.

However, in your example, are you saying to just convince people the peg is round? If so, thats only a short term fix, right? in the end, they'll figure out it's square and it doesn't work....right?

I did include the comment on "Integrity" to try to convey that I don't believe that much of what is happening in today's marketing, meets the high standards that a enterprise with integrity should be striving for. Having said that, and knowing that as a writer there is a limit to how long your articles can be, I do think that there is a place for a legitimate discussion about working to change the square hole to fit your round peg. Or meeting somewhere on the spectrum where both the round peg and square hole change. For example. MacDonald's rolled out the inside ordering Kiosk concept which required both the employees and customers to adapt to change. (Good and bad timing aside, with the onset of Covid) Now Wendy's has a drive though AI powered Kiosk that, from my perspective, really works well. Maybe this line of thinking is a idea for another article. Thanks for replying to my thoughts. I do read many of your articles and have over 30 of them in my "Articles to Save" archives.

I always get something to contemplate when I read your articles. Although I am only a cooking tutor in charge of four volunteers that work together once a week to provide a main meal and a dessert for lunch at the local community school, I find your viewpoints inspiring and encourage me to learn as well as unlearn too! P.s I am a Vegemite lover!
