You talk about the comfort zone and finding comfort in the familiar; I think this is why so many innovative companies and leaders put such a high value on curiosity. Curiosity draws you into the unknown. Curious people love change and the unknown, which is where you will live any time you're doing something new and innovative. Then the question becomes how good are you at navigating the unknown. Great post and looking forward to more context on the story about hanging on the cliff!

Change takes courage and energy. We have to be invested in the possibility of something else to expend that energy. My clients often face the resistance of their peers, their teams, or even their inner dialogue. When they see how the way they think and hear is enforcing their prison cell, the ways to exit it become clear.

Jeff - want to talk about how we might partner and help each other? Sounds like we are very philosophically aligned. LMK - happy to send a schedule link or use yours.

People leave in the world they have created, shaped and maintained as such.

Change Initiatives come from those who embraced change, by developing, hardy, entrepreneurial skillset sometimes by themselves or with support, playing with « motivation from » and « motivation to »; working constantly on their mindset and then figuring out that can do more to help others as they feel a necessity to share, mentor, educate, make grow.

But I am still wondering why leadership is not taught in classes? Why curiosity is not developed in school? Why creativity is oppressed ? Why emotional intelligence is deleted from educational curriculum? In general, worldwide. Why do we consciously leave younger generation run out of necessary skills and tools to become new « entrepreneurs » of their lifes and let them go through this « hell machine » that breaks, gets burn out or bored, takes their independence and ability to take risks, makes them what they are now without capacity to « modeling their reality ». In general, worldwide.

It’s also a kind of integrated into existing system « business model » : re-educating and mentoring instead of working on solid foundation since the beginning.

Thank you for the article.

I am confronted with the "Comfort Zone Syndrome" daily talking to companies that are unhappy with their business technology but reluctant to make the change. The excuses are nearly endless. It's beyond ironic that comapnies that pride themselves on being innovative will get trapped by the Sunk Cost Fallacy.

Nice story line and an interesting way to start your writing. I captivated me to read it till the end. I must admit that your writing was thought provoking. And here’s my view on your write up.

I think silo’ing people into the two compartments created by your epiphany would be a.bit short sighted IMO TBH. One could be staying back for other reasons which is neither a compromise nor an escapism of the kind you’ve mentioned.

One need not loath oneself in self pity or act a victim. Either of these two reactions would land one in a compromise or a cowardly act of escaping from the problem.

There is a third kind who would muster up enough courage to challenge one’s circumstances based on one’s own honesty to oneself. I think everyone deserves to do so otherwise they stand the risk of repeating the cycle of the same problem repeating in their new relationship or work or enterprise. This way of looking at one’s situation is called the middle path.

There could be something that one could change by challenging the present circumstances by making an attempt to understand oneself. This requires one to be courageous and boldly face oneself in the mirror of one’s own life in an unbiased manner. This is possible with people who are self aware. This does not require any special training. We are born with it. It is called our own conscience. We need to listen to it.

Do I forget the gratitude I owe to the organisation just because I’m currently feeling isolated probably because of my own conduct which could also be stemming from my own arrogance of my capability or disrespect of others people? There can be many other possibilities that could land me Ina hostile situation that are of our own doing. None of us are born with a halo over our head. But there’s nothing to stop ourselves from manifesting that inherent potential to awaken ourself to our own humanity. We are all equally born with that potential. We just need to be earnestly make an attempt to manifest it. By running away from the situation without challenging our own weak areas, we end up losing that opportunity to awaken to our humanity. This is crucial point in our life that I believe that we need push ourselves to awaken ourselves to our own true greater nature instead of giving up.

This may sound philosophical. If one were to read the works of people like Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela and people like them, we will find this common thread.

I thank you once again for sharing your thoughts to evoke my own and share my views.

- Sanjay
