Good article. I just wanted to add that in the Army, I was in from 2006-2011, they would just assign us to those roles in round about ways where we were still in danger just like any male soldier. For example, I was "Attached" to a group that had to secure the Iraqi elections searching women and men for bombs. I was a military cook by the way, but they needed women, go figure, to step up because the cultural customs made it hard for mem to search women. All the military did was say "attach" and many female soldiers were right along with 82nd Infantry and Artillery units doing the same things.

First of all, thank you so much for your service!!!

Secondly, that's really interesting how they did that. I'm glad to hear the military did things like that to integrate the women equally.

It was my pleasure to serve. I don't think they did it out the kindness of their hearts or that it was really legal, but I think when you are in a warzone with capable leaders and people, the genitals start to matter less than the mission. Many of us had to step it up, regardless of what some biases were and we were willing to do so in order for everyone to make it back home. Some of the women, came out with awards, some with injuries and some paid the ultimate sacrifice and we are glad that today, our contributions are more recognized than those who came before us. Thanks to so many brave women leaders of our past like the 6888, for example, I was able to do mail handling and serve. too. Again, great article.
