Good article. I just wanted to add that in the Army, I was in from 2006-2011, they would just assign us to those roles in round about ways where we were still in danger just like any male soldier. For example, I was "Attached" to a group that had to secure the Iraqi elections searching women and men for bombs. I was a military cook by the way, but they needed women, go figure, to step up because the cultural customs made it hard for mem to search women. All the military did was say "attach" and many female soldiers were right along with 82nd Infantry and Artillery units doing the same things.

First of all, thank you so much for your service!!!

Secondly, that's really interesting how they did that. I'm glad to hear the military did things like that to integrate the women equally.

It was my pleasure to serve. I don't think they did it out the kindness of their hearts or that it was really legal, but I think when you are in a warzone with capable leaders and people, the genitals start to matter less than the mission. Many of us had to step it up, regardless of what some biases were and we were willing to do so in order for everyone to make it back home. Some of the women, came out with awards, some with injuries and some paid the ultimate sacrifice and we are glad that today, our contributions are more recognized than those who came before us. Thanks to so many brave women leaders of our past like the 6888, for example, I was able to do mail handling and serve. too. Again, great article.

One of the things that concerns me is that so many of our social and political structures, our ways of working have been defined by men and we seem so loathe to challenge these at a systemic level.

Yes that is a valid point. Our system of being was created by white men for white men. Everybody else is swimming upstream.

Things are changing but they will naturally take time.

How would you describe the major differences in leadership approaches from a more feminine energy?

Amazing how you set the tone for the beginning of your article with no fact check proof of how those comments were made where and under what circumstances! You set the stage for bias against women by men with quotes of notable men to fit your narrative. The same way some people quote from the Bible parables that fit their own narrative. How coincidental that you included a quote from Donald Trump after he just became the President elect and again without a fact check of how and in what context that comment was made. It probably was a sarcastic joke made in a locker room trying to be funny like many people and comedians of both genders ( yes I believe in only two genders) often do.

What a nice way to start the country healing and becoming united by quoting a demeaning statement by our new President!

While I found your article to contain significant quotes of interest I find your slanted opinions despicable, especially against the male population. You’re entitled to your opinion such as I but without a researched fact check on your statements they become as useless as tits on a bull…. Pun intended. As long as some women engage in ( for whatever reason) pole dancing-provocative dressing-prostitution-salacious outfits and the constant subliminal flirting and teasing of the male population will make the distinctive difference among women much harder to identify. You counter dictated yourself when you said you weren’t going to be woke. I hope you enjoy the next four years of the new leadership attempting to put our country back on a stable platform for unification or start having our children learn to speak Chinese when (if) they become the global power over all of us! Then all of your concern about wokness will be meaningless. In my own personal opinion, there’s a much more important issue at hand to be corrected, so stop as you say, stop the ripple of the ocean taking away small grains of sand over a long period of time by continuing to undermine the male population by pointing out the misogynistic views of a few or one day all of us will live in a country that doesn’t even have a shoreline!

The line that that sticks with me here is "No single group can fight for equality alone, nor should they have to." By writing this post alone, you are advocating advocating for equality. I have had several mentors throughout my career (all men), who have advocated for me like this in real time when I needed some backup to deal with a less than ideal situation. When we can collectively work together to fight for equality, whether we are part of the same "group" or not, we are stronger.
